New for the fall of 2013, Cookin’ on the Coast is a half hour cooking series which will replace YUM TV on CHEK Television. Delicious and innovative, Cookin’ on the Coast’s focus will be on the great sustainable food we have on Vancouver Island, and the remarkable dishes created by Chef Garrett Schack. Chef Schack is Executive Chef at Vista 18, Chateau Victoria’s well-loved rooftop restaurant and we here at Chateau Victoria couldn’t be prouder to see him returning to television this fall.
Chef Schack’s love of food started at the professional culinary arts program at Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia. Upon graduation, he headed to Australia and South East Asia. This awoke his passion for working with the rich flavours found in fresh, localized ingredients. Garrett returned to Victoria with a new approach to West Coast cuisine. He worked at a selection of Victoria’s best restaurants before rising to the heights of the long-established Vista 18. He puts great importance on getting to know local farmers and food providers and is always on the look-out for new ideas and interesting ingredients. He has developed a strong team in the kitchen and with other chefs in the food community. He wants to bring the television viewers recipes that teach and inspire and the love of cooking that he enjoys at work and at home.
Between preparing an array of uniquely West Coast dishes, Chef Schack will hit the road to visit other wonderful restaurants and eateries that embrace our local food culture. Plus he’ll show you fantastic pairings with local brews, wines and cocktails. You won’t want to miss this delightful show airing tonight at 10:30pm. Visit CHEK TV for other air times.
