Whether you’re an art fan or simply appreciate a creative work of art, the Victoria International Chalk Art Festival is the event to see this coming weekend. Stretching from Government Street to Centennial Square, enjoy art from some of the world’s finest 2D and 3D chalk artists as they fill the street with their beautiful and unique creations. It’s a fun festival that’s great for the whole family!

This free event includes a music stage, food village, kid’s chalkers area and more including a 20 X 20 foot painting in the Bay Centre’s lower level. Artists come from all over the world to take part in this unique event. This year’s artists include Leon Keer, Dutch pop-surrealist and world’s leading artist in 3D street art and Ian Morris, specialist in Renaissance masterpieces and creator of this year’s program cover honouring the First Nations of British Columbia. What a treat!

The Chalk Art Festival is in its second year. After last year’s event they had so much overwhelming community support that this year they expanded with more artists and locations for your enjoyment. They are expecting as many as 30,000 spectators!

After you enjoy all there is to see and do at the Victoria International Chalk Art Festival, make your way down to Chateau Victoria for a delicious meal in our fabulous rooftop restaurant, Vista 18, and unwind for the evening in one of our comfortable rooms.

Roy Recommends – Best Way to See Historic Gardens – Victorian Garden Tours

Guests at Chateau Victoria ask me all the time about the Butchart Gardens. They are the most famous gardens in Victoria. But did you know that there are many other beautiful heritage gardens throughout the city? Whether an avid gardener or simply an admirer of beauty, these gardens will take your breath away!

Victorian Garden Tours offers unique tours throughout some of the best local gardens around. You’ll see Hatley Gardens – the largest intact Edwardian gardens in Canada, Jewel Box, featuring two one hundred year old apple trees and a rainbow of hellebores surrounding a heritage cottage, or Heritage Home – a trend-setting garden with plants hailing from New Zealand and Australia, inspired by Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf.

Another option is the Emily Carr Tour. See Victoria through the eyes of Canada’s leading painter and writer, Emily Carr (1875-1945). You’ll hear stories about this amazing woman, see the places that inspired her art, and explore the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

Visit to submit your tour request or phone 250-380-2797. They will put together a tour package based on your preferences and contact you to finalize details.

Vancouver Island Blue Bash – Aug 31st to Sept 2 – A Must See for Blues and R&B Fans

Posted in Events By mark

We at Chateau Victoria are so excited for the Vancouver Island Blues Bash being held on the outdoor stage at Victoria’s Inner Harbour August 31st through September 2nd.

There are a couple of reasons why we love Blues Bash. First, our rooftop restaurant, Vista 18, regularly hosts great live local blues and jazz bands so you could say we have an ear for it. Second, Blues Bash is a chance to see not only fabulous local talent, but also regional and international artists and groups. It’s very exciting!

This year’s lineup includes:

  • Duke Robillard
  • Adam Karch
  • Stephen Barry Band
  • Cruel Shoes
  • Curl
  • Jason Buie Band
  • The Midnights
  • Bill Johnson Blues Band
  • And more!

Afternoon Performances are free and tickets for evening performances are available at the Victoria Jazz Society Office at #202-345 Quebec Street or online at
